Chlorine Dioxide
Chlorine Dioxide (ClO2) is an effective and reliable disinfectant and oxidant. It is used in various applications ranging from potable and process water to effluent water. Unlike Chlorine and Bromine, ClO2 is unaffected by changes in pH and is very effective against bio-films. It can readily permeate and penetrate bio-films that are normally resistant to most disinfectants.
In industrial cooling systems, Legionella is a serious hazard if water remains untreated. ClO2 has been proven to be extremely effective in the control of Legionella bacteria, in containing algae growth and in odour control.
The following processes could include ClO2:
- Final disinfection and primary oxidation of bulk water supply
- Final disinfection of sea water treatment plants
- Auxiliary disinfection of municipal waters in production facilities being sensitive to any kind of biological growth
- Bio-film control in pipelines and production systems
- Algae growth in heap leach processes
- Odour control of effluent water

Disinfection of bulk water supply, process water in abattoirs and rural area potable water disinfection are just three of many applications where calcium hypochlorite can be used. Calcium hypochlorite is supplied in either granular form or a high-concentration tablet form.
